PILONIDAL CYST

The pilonidal cyst is a chronic inflammation in the area above the coccyx which may be solitary or with multiple branches.
The etiology is not clear, but it is mainly responsible for the wrong direction of hair growth (towards the inside of the skin) or even in a cyst that formed during the fetal life of the patient. It also occurs more often in people with intense hair growth in the area.
Coccygeal cyst is more common in men than women and occurs mainly between the ages of adolescence and 30 years. It usually does not cause much discomfort and its existence is often perceived only by the staining of the underwear.
In its acute form it is accompanied by swelling, severe pain, inflammation and abscess. In the case of abscess, immediate opening and drainage is necessary in order to relieve the patient. I

Surgical treatment of coccygeal cyst

The treatment of the pilonidal cyst is only surgical, it consists in the removal (excision) of the cyst in order to completely remove the focus of the disease and any possible extension in the area. The resection of the affected area can be performed with a scalpel, diathermy, laser, R-F. The wound can then be left open (open method), partially closed (semi-closed method) or fully sutured (closed method).
Surgical removal of the cyst, involves surgical trauma, an extended recovery period (from 1-2 months), permanent changes in the wound area, and existing risks of infection and recurrence.

The innovative treatment of pilonidal cyst with laser (FiLaC)

In recent years, the use of a new generation of laser surgeries has contributed to a new, completely painless and bloodless  therapeutic approach relieving patients of the painful classic cyst removal surgery.
FiLaC (Fistula track Laser Closure) treatment is performed under local anesthesia, without any incision and achieves bloodless, painless and very quickly  treatment and closure of the cyst.
The treatment is performed with the use of advanced surgical laser and special fibers of energy emission, in this way the inner walls of the fistula are destroyed while the action of the laser leads to the sublimation of the cysts capsule resulting in its rapid healing and the final treatment of the patient.

The advantages of pilonidal Cyst Laser Treatment (FiLaC)

– The treatment is simple, short (up to 15 minutes), bloodless and completely painless, offering an immediate and definitive clinical result.
– Requires a minimum time of hospitalization (day clinic). The patient returns to his daily activities from the very next day.
– It does not cause any trauma, does not require painful changes after surgery, while the patient is not exposed to risks of infections or other complications (wound perforation, bleeding, etc.) and is accompanied by an excellent aesthetic result.
– It is a method of choice for the treatment of relapses (after failed surgical removals).
